BiographyLaura Woods, aged 27, is a London based Mezzo Soprano studying under the tutelage of Professor Susan McCulloch. Previous teachers include Christine Cairns and Coral Gould. Laura, originally from Derbyshire, graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire in 2007, with First Class Honours, also taking the college's first prize titles in both the lieder and opera competitions. She was also first runner up in the annual oratorio prize. At Birmingham Conservatoire, Laura gained considerable experience on both the operatic stage and concert platform. Her studies there were kindly supported by the EMI Music Sound Foundation. Since graduating, Laura has been in demand as a mezzo soprano soloist in oratorio and opera, corporate engagements and private functions. Laura has recently worked for Opera Holland Park, Buxton Opera, Riverside Opera and Grange Park Opera and recently completed the 'Opera Works' course with the English National Opera. Laura made her solo debut for Opera Holland Park in August 2010, singing the role of 'Agnes' in the European Premiere of Fantastic Mr Fox and is excited to be singing the roles of 'Giovanna' and 'Maddalena' (cover) in their 2011 production of Rigoletto. |
